The final installment of our 3-part listening series for 2024 brought us together one last time—on a Friday evening, no less. Keeping things relaxed, we dove into a lighter conversation over a delicious chicken biryani dinner, sharing thoughts on what we’d want EU bosses to hear. Best of all, attendees got an exclusive first look at the deliverables inspired by our listening sessions.
Over the last two months, A Better Brussels listening sessions brought together folks from the different spheres of the EU policymaking space to figure out the answer to one question: "How can EU bosses do better?"
Many of us have nodded in disbelief while privately discussing our experiences over coffee.
We’ve had some rich conversations around what it takes to create a safe, seen, supported work environment in which we can all deliver our best work, sparked by our experiences working in our small bubble.
While we could have stopped at finger-pointing, we were also shaping our leadership futures.
On 15 November, we were back at it, and I was very excited to give attendees an exclusive first look at the deliverables inspired by our listening sessions:
1️⃣ A report summarising feedback from listening sessions on how EU bosses can do better.
2️⃣ A leadership self-assessment: Think of it as a friendly nudge to reflect (don’t worry, it’s more about reflection, not judgement!).
3️⃣ Conversation starters to help you discuss what's important to you with your boss during end-of-year review: As review season approaches, we've crafted a toolkit to help you have more meaningful and productive discussions with your bosses.
We are delighted that so many people joined us on this Friday evening.

During this listening session, we set out to talk about leadership responsibilities, however, our attendees brought their own agenda—rich with opinions, ideas, and challenges that stretched beyond the planned discussion. I figured a quick summary just wouldn’t cut it, so giving you a glimpse at my 'Dear Diary' entry instead—it's a heartfelt look back at the day. Find out more

Folks from the different spheres of the EU policymaking space attended the first listening session! The session brought to light some hard truths in Brussels' policymaking workplaces. It was not all sad news, it showed incredible talent, willpower to figure it out and constructive suggestions on what is expected of EU bosses.
Major thanks to everyone who attended, shared their stories, and listened. Your contributions emphasised that the responsibility to create a healthy work environment should rest with those in power, not solely on those affected. Read more here
